The meeting was called to order at 7.15 P.M. Minutes from the April 11th and 18th meetings were approved. The President- Dr. Poonam Jain made a power point presentation outlining the background, history, mission, vision and current accomplishments of the ITS Trail Committee. The presentation included photographs taken by Dr. Jain when Dr. Siegfried and she walked a part of the old, abandoned ITS route till the Bridge over Cahokia creek. She reported that the bridge appeared to be in very good shape, so far as the steel structure was concerned. The wooden portions were rotting.

She then apprised all present that various levels of membership were available and encouraged everyone to become a member by filling out a membership form. Dr. Jain then introduced the speaker for the evening- Mr. Jay Jessen of Greene and Bradford engineering firm form Springfield, IL. Greene and Bradford had done the original feasibility study conducted by the Macoupin County Trails organization in 2002.

Mr. Jessen made a presentation regarding the trail systems currently developed in Macoupin county and the proposed trail routes. He was of the opinion that a trail form Staunton to Benld was critical to linking the southern part of IL state to the northern part and also in eventually connecting St. Louis, MO to Springfield, IL.

Dr. Jain thanked Mr. Jessen and presented him with at T-shirt bearing the ITS Trail logo- paid for by John Fritsche. Mr. Jessen was very pleased with the little token of the ITS Trail Committee appreciation.

Upon Mr. Jessen’s departure, everyone present was encouraged to become a charter member and the meeting was officially adjourned. The completed membership applications were given to Dr. Siegfried and the checks to Susan McBride- our secretary, to hold till an EIN and a bank-account can be obtained.

The next sub-committees meeting will be held on May 16th.
